Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) |
| Thanks to advancements
in the field of genetics, we can now analyze embryos before they are
implanted to identify abnormalities. This procedure is beneficial
for women of advancing maternal age, usually 35 years old and over,
who are more prone to producing embryos with genetic disorders. A
PGD for a single gene can also be performed for couples at known risk
for a genetic disorder such as TaySachs disease or cystic fibrosis.
