In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) |
| Since its first successful
use in 1978, in-vitro fertilization (IVF) has become a routine medical
procedure that has resulted in thousands of births. IVF involves retrieving
eggs from the woman and sperm from the man and introducing them in
laboratory conditions to increase the possibility of fertilization.
Eggs that are successfully fertilized are cultured into embryos. Then
after about three to five days of incubation in the lab, the embryos
are |
deposited via a catheter
which is passed through the vagina and cervix directly into the uterus.
It should be noted that the success rate of the CHA Fertility Center
and our Medical Director, Dr.Vicken Sepilian, is substantially above
the national average for in-vitro fertilization, as reported by the
Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. |
